Pivot Cycles: Mach 6 Release

Ever since college, I’ve been obsessed with mountain biking. That fascination only grew when I relocated to Colorado. For me, it’s always been a ticket into the outdoors, a method to challenge myself mentally and physically, and a way of meeting other incredible humans who also value access to public land. So when Pivot Cycles approached me about creating media for the launch of their Mach 6, I was beyond stoked to be be a part of the project. Pivot Cycles is a performance bike manufacture based out of Tempe, Arizona. Chris Cocalis founded the company in 2007 and is himself a pioneer and legend in bike design and manufacturing. After spending a weekend riding one of their bikes on several burly trails in the Pacific Northwest, my mind was blown. I had never ridden such a nimble, lightweight, and fun bike. Needless to say, I was thrilled to photograph and film the bike release. The Mach 6 is an aggressive, carbon framed enduro bike with a rear coil suspension. It incorporates a geometry and components that make it both stable and playful, a challenging balance to strike.

With the pandemic requiring extra safety and caution, we assembled a small and nimble crew that would tackle stills, motion, and aerial. We shot over the course of two days at Trestle Bike Park in Winter Park, Colorado, working closely with resort staff to ensure all local and state guidelines were followed. With special permission from the US Forest Service, we were able to utilize the drone in key locations, offering unique perspectives not often seen at Trestle Bike Park. Working closely with the folks from Pivot Cycles, and with the unbridled work ethic of Brice Shirbach in the producer role and Matt Jones working the gimbal, we all finished up the two days feeling sore, sunburnt, and accomplished.
